Which do you prefer? Granola or muesli?

Personally, I like both.  But I don’t eat granola very often.  Why not? It’s got to do with those added extras in granola.

Both muesli and granola are made with the same basic ingredients … oats, nuts, seeds and some dried fruit.

Muesli is usually then soaked in milk and eaten raw.

Granola, on the other hand, can have other fats ( such as canola oil ) and sweeteners ( such as honey or maple syrup ) added.  It is then baked until it is crunchy served with milk or yoghurt.

So, whether one or the other is deemed healthy, comes down to the ingredients that are used.  You can, of course, make your own!

When I can be bothered I toast my muesli ( this is not often I will admit! ) but I don’t add any sweeteners or fats.

If you want to give my muesli a go, check out the recipe here.  Let me know what you think if you try it!

If you want to give granola a go, Teresa Cutter does a yummy recipe here.  Not much difference is there really!

Another bonus is that it doesn’t need to be a breakfast food only!  I have been known to have a small bowl for an afternoon snack!
