The weather is getting warmer and it’s nearly time to start removing a few of those clothes layers that kept us under cover during winter. Yep, summer frocks and swimwear weather is nearly here!

Are you ready to take those layers off?

Do you need to burn off that winter comfort layer that you have been hiding so skillfully under your jumper?

Are you wanting to get rid of the jiggles?

Now is the time to get serious with your workout to get the results you want.

You need a workout that will burn calories and create a deficit to help you lose weight, right. If that is your goal, of course!

A workout that will also build muscle so you get to show off your gorgeous lean, strong muscles in sleeveless tops & shorts.

Never fear, I have the answer. These are my favourite workouts to get you fit, lean and toned fast …

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) … think short and sharp workouts. The reason they are short is because you won’t last much longer than half an hour! And if you do, you just aren’t working hard enough!
Just about any workout can be changed up to a HIIT session by varying the tempo, timing and rest of your reps during the workout. You can use weights, your own body weight or doing some running intervals like sprints, boxing and a circuit is also a great one.  I really love these type of workouts because they are short and sharp. I am quite often trying to squeeze in a workout between various other things, so I want something I can get over and done with in a short time, and it needs to be worth my time! Quality workout = Quality results!  I am a big fan of these type of workouts.

Strength training … this is your best way to get the lean, toned, athletic look you are going for. As a minimum you need to do a quality full body weight training session once per week and you will see results.  They may come a little slower than if you trained 2 – 3 weight training sessions per week, but if you focus on a few other factors too you will absolutely see the product of your hard work. For example, if you continue to eat too much then you won’t create the deficit you need to lose that layer of fat covering the strong muscles you are building!
It will also not help if you are using weights that are too light. Go heavier, focus on form and technique. If you need some tips please check with your PT to make sure you are on the right track.

Move more .. in general, move more.  Find some time to go for a brisk walk.  Park a little further away from the shops.  Head out doors for a quick walk at lunch time.  Grab a friend and head out for a walk and chat. Finding something that you enjoy doing is also going to be a sure fire way for you to stay consistent .. just move more!

**Just a quick note to finish, if you are just starting out please always consult your health professional.  Please also consult with your PT if you are unsure of what to do and how to do it … injuries are just not that much fun and can certainly put a dampener on getting your workout on!
