Are you wanting to improve your health & fitness?

But you’re not sure how to get started … I might be able to help you with that!  Just get started!

Yeah, I know, it’s not as easy as that is it?!  Are your excuses are starting to sound old?  You would really like to spend just a little bit of time focusing on yourself … mostly because you are amazing and want to be the best version of yourself that you can be, right?  And, no, housework is not a legitimate excuse. It can wait for 30 minutes, I guarantee it!

Next thought that you might have is that there is just so much conflicting and confusing information out there.  Most of which I encourage you strongly to ignore!  Crazy diet fads / foods are not the way to being your fittest, strongest, healthiest you.  They might work for the minority, for the first week or two, but over the long term you need something that you can fit in with your lifestyle!

So, how can you get started?  I’ve had a little bit of experience in helping people get started with their health & fitness.  I’ve also had to motivate myself to get started at times! OK, here goes …

Move more     Totally self explanatory but sometimes hard to implement. An hour and a half training session is just not necessary unless you plan on being an elite athlete, especially when you are starting out.  If you are finding it hard to work out a routine or not sure what you want to do, then start with 10 – 15 minutes every second day and build from there.  A brisk walk is seriously enough to get you started!  See point number 4.

Eat Healthy, Nutritious Foods     No, it is not necessary to cut out food groups unless of course you have a medical reason to do so.  My biggest tips    Eat from all food groups avoiding processed foods, foods high in fat and foods high in sugar.  Don’t overeat … you will not starve.   I’m not a nutritionist, nor a dietician so I won’t be providing any specific advice, head off to your qualified professional for personalised, individual advice.  I will give you some basic advice … don’t over complicate it! And enjoy what you eat!

Get some guidance if you need it     I don’t mean on Instagram or Facebook.  Find a qualified professional that you can relate to and can provide you with advice for you as an amazing individual ( i.e. nutritionist, dietician, physiotherapist, personal trainer ).  It is absolutely OK to stalk them on Instagram or Facebook or website to find out more about them, their beliefs and qualifications! PS .. It is also absolutely acceptable to ask for help! It shows you are serious about getting what you want ?

Best exercise to get the results you want     What do you like? Do it! There is no point in persisting with something that you are hating and don’t enjoy at all. However, that being said, sometimes you need to persist.

Goals     Set yourself some little goals, they don’t have to be the same as your big long term goals but they need to be something that challenges you.  That you need to make an extra effort to achieve.  It could be as simple as committing to move for 30 minutes on 3 days each week.  Make sure you schedule it in your diary so that it is an appointment with yourself, your time to focus on you!

Partner     This can certainly help in the motivation stakes!  Get together with someone who has similar goals to you and you can hold each other accountable.  Besides, it’s fun to train with a training partner, you can challenge each other, push each other, encourage, motivate and support each other!  And you can enjoy celebrating together when you have achieved your goals!!

Don’t stress     This one is super important.  Don’t go all gungho and think that you have to make wholesale changes in the first week.  Start with small changes that you can easily incorporate into your current lifestyle, then build on them.  Little changes are easier to chew than choke on big changes! Oh and you don’t have to be perfect! Nobody is and if they tell you they are then they are full of it!

Be Positive    Possibly the most important point here! Be positive! Positive thoughts, positive actions, positive results! No negative thoughts allowed! If something doesn’t work, try something else! One slip up will also not completely ruin all your efforts!

Now that are armed with all the info, get out there and get started! You know you want to!
